Staphyloma-related chorioretinal folds

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, 2020
Purpose: To report a case of bilateral idiopathic chorioretinal folds that seemed to be related to an atypical staphyloma. Observations: A 49-year old man without medical history consulted for slight vision loss and metamorphopsia in the left eye.

Investigation of Hamamatsu H8500 phototubes as single photon detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We have investigated the response of a significant sample of Hamamatsu H8500 MultiAnode PhotoMultiplier Tubes (MAPMTs) as single photon detectors, in view of their use in a ring imaging Cherenkov counter for the CLAS12 spectrometer at the Thomas ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Detection of tumor mass based on laser scanning imaging

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية, 2017
Optical methods are widely used for medical diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The use of laser source as non-ionized radiation in the imaging is considered safe, and has advantages more than the other radiological methods The laser application in ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

A combined experimental and theoretical study on realizing and using laser controlled torsion of molecules

open access: yes, 2009
It is demonstrated that strong laser pulses can introduce torsional motion in the axially chiral molecule 3,5-diflouro-3',5'-dibromo-biphenyl (DFDBrBPh).

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Experimental comparison of autodyne and heterodyne laser interferometry using a Nd:YVO4 microchip laser

open access: yes, 2011
Using a Nd:YVO4 microchip laser with a relaxation frequency in the megahertz range, we have experimentally compared a heterodyne interferometer based on a Michelson configuration with an autodyne interferometer based on the laser optical feedback imaging
