A reflective sapphire@PiGF@alumina color converter enabling ultrahigh luminescence laser-driven white lighting

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
High-brightness laser lighting faces grave challenges in the development of laser-driven color converters that simultaneously possess excellent optical performance and superior heat dissipation.

Energy-neutral solar-powered street lighting with predictive and adaptive behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Street lighting can enhance the safety and security of residential and commercial areas. However, its installation and operation is expensive: cables must be installed, and power is drawn from the grid which is typically dominated by non-renewable ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Solar PV Lighting and Studying after Sunset: Analysis of Micro-benefits in Off-grid Rural Ghana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Solar PV light provides school children living in off-grid rural communities the opportunity to have clean and bright lighting to study after sunset. On the contrary, lighting provided from poor sources can pollute and adversely affect human eyes during ...

Composite structure Al2O3/Al2O3–YAG:Ce/YAG ceramics with high color spatial uniformity for white laser lighting

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
Composite ceramic phosphor (CCP) is a candidate light-conversion material to obtain the high-quality laser lighting source. Phosphors based on the transmissive configuration model could not simultaneously meet the requirements of angular color uniformity

Laser adhesion test for thermal sprayed coatings on textured surface by laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The laser shock adhesion test (LASAT) is a technique allowing the generation of high tensile stresses in materials. The LASAT consists in focusing a pulsed laser beam on a water-confined target.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Photothermal synergistic AlN–YAG:Ce composite phosphor ceramics for laser-driven lighting applications

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
As laser lighting advances toward kilowatt-level power, the thermal stability of phosphors has become a critical bottleneck limiting performance enhancement.
