Field-test of a robust, portable, frequency-stable laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We operate a frequency-stable laser in a non-laboratory environment where the test platform is a passenger vehicle. We measure the acceleration experienced by the laser and actively correct for it to achieve a system acceleration sensitivity of $\Delta f

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

A Water‐Soluble PVA Macrothiol Enables Two‐Photon Microfabrication of Cell‐Interactive Hydrogel Structures at 400 mm s−1

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A PVA‐based macromolecular thiol‐ene formulation enables efficient two‐photon polymerization at extremely low polymer concentrations and high writing speeds of 400 mm s−1 (20×), allowing high‐fidelity laser writing of cell‐interactive hydrogel structures on demand.

Chiral Acoustic Phonon and Conservation of Pseudoangular Momentum in α‐Quartz

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral acoustic phonons in α‐quartz are probed via Brillouin light scattering, exploiting the photon's helicity and the crystal's handedness. The interaction obeys a selection rule arising from pseudoangular momentum conservation, enabling direct optical access to phonon chirality in nonsymmorphic crystals.

Trade-off between Linewidth and Slip Rate in a Mode-Locked Laser Model

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate a trade-off between linewidth and loss-of-lock frequency in a mode-locked laser employing active feedback to control the carrier-envelope offset phase difference.

Photo‐Reconfigurable Supercoupling Induced Transparency in On‐Chip Topological Edge State Cavities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel supercoupling induced transparency (SIT) is demonstrated in a valley‐Hall photonic crystal. The valley vortices enable the supercoupling between a leaky and a guided topological edge state cavity even across a distance of 4.3 wavelengths, inducing a transparency window with negligible reflection.

Theory of linewidth narrowing in Fano lasers

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
We present a general theory for the coherence of Fano lasers based on a bound state in the continuum. We find that such lasers enable an orders-of-magnitude reduction in the quantum-limited linewidth and, by introducing mirror symmetry breaking, the ...

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

Emergent Freestanding Complex Oxide Membranes for Multifunctional Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review surveys freestanding oxide membranes and covers fabrication and three pathways for studies and devices: strain‐free and strained membranes, and van der Waals‐integrated heterostructures. We show how coupled oxide responses map onto these routes and cross‐couple to expand behaviors.
