Fundamentals and Applications of Cavitation Peening Comparing with Shot Peening and Laser Peening
2019Although impact induced by cavitation bubble collapse causes severe damage in hydraulic machineries, the impact can be utilized for the mechanical surface treatment of metallic materials in the same way as shot peening. The peening using cavitation impact is named as “cavitation peening”. In the paper, the concepts and key factors on cavitation peening

Reliable Laser Technology for Laser Peening Applications
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2012, 2012A phase‐conjugated Nd:glass laser technology delivering 20 J/pulse at 1 GW and 5 Hz prf is reliably employed for laser peening. With irradiances up to 10 GW/cm2 the laser's beam creates pressures that plastically yield metal surfaces leaving deep levels of compressive stress or desired plastic strain.

Laser shock peening and warm laser shock peening: process modeling and pulse shape influence
SPIE Proceedings, 2013Laser shock peening is a well-known technology able to enhance the fatigue life of mechanical components by means of the introduction of residual stresses on their surface. These stresses are induced by means of the recoil pressure caused by the abrupt expansion, in a confining medium, of a laser-vaporized coating layer.

Laser Peening in Tooling Industry
Laser Congress 2024 (ASSL, LAC, LS&C)Molds, dies and cutting tools often go through extreme thermomechanical cycles which significantly reduce their life. By targeting critical areas of complex shapes, LSP creates new kind of tool with enhanced fatigue and wear properties.

Laser peening of metallic materials
2020Laser peening is a good candidate for the surface treatment industry because of its localized operation, very fast processing, and ability to use multiple types of radiation; therefore, it has recently become a process used for industrial production. The mechanical recoil impulse that arises from rapidly expanding vapor generates high pulse pressure ...

Laser Cavitation Peening Using a Nd:YAG Laser and a Fiber Laser
Laser Congress 2024 (ASSL, LAC, LS&C)Cavitation is a harmful phenomenon for hydraulic machineries such as pumps and valves etc., as it causes severe erosion by impacts at cavitation bubble collapses. However, the cavitation impacts can be utilized for mechanical surface modification in the same way of shot peening. A peening method using cavitation impact is called as “cavitation peening”,
