Compressive sampling has been previously proposed as a technique for sampling radar returns and determining sparse range profiles with a reduced number of measurements compared to conventional techniques. By employing modulation on both transmission and reception, compressive sensing in ranging is extended to the direct measurement of range profiles ...

2007 International Workshop on Robotic and Sensors Environments, 2007
We present an approach to laser range scanning in which quality metrics are used to automatically reduce the number of measurements acquired from a scanner viewpoint. As part of this approach we present improved versions of the orientation, and reflectivity quality metrics, as well as introduce three quality metrics: spot size, re solvability, and ...

Geodynamic Laser Ranging System Laser Transmitter
[Proceedings] IGARSS'91 Remote Sensing: Global Monitoring for Earth Management, 2005A description is given of the requirements and design options in the development of a spaceborne laser transmitter for NASA's Geodynamic Laser Ranging System. Three different oscillators are considered. The first is an injection-seeded ring oscillator yielding 1 mJ of energy within a 120-ps pulse.

Long-range tunable diode laser
Applied Optics, 1995A novel, simple tuning mechanism for single-mode, pseudo-external-cavity diode lasers has been developed. The model calculations predict that the laser can be tuned continuously by as much as 300 GHz in the vicinity of the chosen frequency without locking it to an external cavity.

Short-range contactless laser sensor
2017 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2017In this paper is shown all the process is needed to build a laser sensor, developed specifically for very short distance with a very compact size. Only the laser chip, a red VCSEL laser without any lens, makes the sensor. Features of this contactless sensor is a dynamic of measurement of 3 mm starting at 2 mm up to 5 mm with a resolution of 10 μm ...

Wide-spectral-range laser refractometer
Applied Optics, 2003We present refractometric measurements made in the 266-1064-nm spectral region with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser, and the second, third, and fourth harmonics of the laser's fundamental wavelength. The critical angle is determined by the disappearance of the diffraction orders from a metal grating, forming a microcuvette with the prism's reflecting wall.
