3D laser scanner with gazing ability
2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2011This paper presents a 3D laser scanner that can gaze at an arbitrary region. By modulating the secondary rotation speed of roundly swinging 3D laser scanner, it gazes at a specific region and measures with high density measurement points. The proposed method uses a secondary rotation motor to control the measurement point density and no extra motor is ...

A laser scanner for the densitometric analysis of radiographs
Medical Physics, 1979An instrument is described which can scan radiographs and collect densitometric readings for subsequent computer analysis. A laser beam is focused onto the film. Raster scan of the beam is provided by two orthogonal mirror galvanometers. The light, attenuated by the radiograph, is gathered by a lens in such a way that it is directed onto a small ...

Holographic laser scanners for multidirectional scanning
Applied Optics, 1983Phase distributions to generate holograms for use in laser scanning are investigated to create a multidirectional scanning pattern such as an X, asterisk, and lattice. The scanning direction for elliptic and hyperbolic phase distribution holograms is oblique to the hologram moving direction.

Equations for the diffraction-limited resolution of laser scanners are developed to encompass all known forms of angularly deflected systems. This includes the polygon (pyramidal or prismatic) with or without optical power in its elements (such as lenticular or holographic), whether overillumi-nated or underilluminated, forming output beams that are ...

Development of a novel laser range scanner
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Laser range scanning an organ surface intraoperatively provides a cost effective and accurate means of measuring geometric changes in tissue. A novel laser range scanner with integrated tracking was designed, developed, and analyzed with the goal of providing intraoperative surface data during neurosurgery.

Relief-frequency characteristics of laser scanners
Izmeritel`naya Tekhnika, 2019The concept of the relief-frequency characteristic of laser scanners is introduced. The necessity of using the relief-frequency characteristic is substantiated with a description of the frequency properties of laser scanners. A procedure for experimental determination of the relief-frequency characteristic of laser scanners has been developed, and ...

Modulation techniques for an airborne laser scanner
Applied Optics, 1979Methods of modulating the laser output power of an airborne scanner which can measure slant range and reflectance are analyzed. The performance factors used in the range measurement are the range ambiguity interval, the range resolution, and the variance of the range estimate. Variance of the estimate is used to compare reflectance measurements.

3D proximity laser scanner calibration
2013 18th International Conference on Methods & Models in Automation & Robotics (MMAR), 2013This paper deals with the calibration of scanner Velodyne HDL-64E that is used in field robotic applications. The aim of calibration is to improve the performance in advanced mapping algorithms such as robot evidence grids or octree. The proposed novel calibration method is founded on conditional adjustment for correlated measurements and using close ...

Unified Storage for Laser Scanner Data
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2012The main goal of this paper is to show a way to resolve interoperability of more different laser proximity scanners into a mapping engine. The idea is to make a software layer with unified data approach to be able to access laser scanner data from different 2D or 3D proximity scanners in unified way.
