Digital scanning laser microscope

A digital scanning laser microscope system, capable of scanning a specimen at high speed, has been developed. The system can display a reflected, transmitted, or photoinduced mode of the scanning laser micrograph size 512 × 512 pixels on a conventional TV monitor within 10 sec.

In examination of ir-transmitting materials, internal irregularities and inclusions of foreign material can be detected by their effect upon the ir transmittance of the material. A scanning laser ir microscope has been constructed which produces, on an oscilloscope display, a shadowgraph picture of the ir transmittance of the material under examination.

Holographic Laser Scanning Microscopy

We realize a new optical microscopy technique (Holographic Laser Scanning Microscopy, H-LSM) based on holographic laser scanning illumination of the sample. In each scanning step, a multispot illumination pattern is generated by phase modulating a laser beam via Computer Generated Holography (CGH).

Laser-scanning parameters and latitudes in laser xerography

The operating parameters required of a laser-scanning system to give optimum line and pixel reproduction are calculated. The shapes of isolated lines and pixels are predicted as a function of the output scanning parameters. Isophote maps for these lines and pixels are given for a sampling of scanning parameters.

Fluorescence laser scanning microscopy (LSM) offers many advantages over conventional fluorescence microscopy. Very strong excitation light can be concentrated on small spots (0.5 microm) of the specimen, enabling the detection of low concentrations of fluorescent substances.
