Optimization of laser scribing for thin-film photovoltaics

Conference Record of the Twenty Fifth IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference - 1996, 1996
In this paper, the authors report on studies of four different lasers for the scribing of thin-film photovoltaic materials including CdTe, CIS, SnO/sub 2/, ZnO, and Mo. They have used cw-lamp-pumped and flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers (/spl lambda/=532/1064 nm), a copper-vapor laser (511/578 nm), and an XeCl-excimer laser (308 nm), with pulse durations ...

Crack Propagation in Glass by Laser Irradiation Along Laser Scribed Line

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2009
A mechanical breaking process after laser scribing is indispensable to complete the separation of glass substrate since the crack depth induced by the laser scribing is limited. Laser irradiation along the laser scribed line is introduced in this paper as a crack propagation method in depth direction after the laser scribing of a relatively thick glass

Mechanically inspired laser scribing of thin brittle materials

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2017
Abstract Laser processing of thin flexible ceramics and glasses is challenging due to the incurred brittleness and unfavorable thermal and optical properties of such materials. We describe an alternative laser cutting method which utilizes surface stress raisers to cleave brittle substrates along a defined path.

Laser‐Scribed Battery Electrodes for Ultrafast Zinc‐Ion Energy Storage

Advanced Materials
AbstractAqueous Zn batteries are promising for large‐scale energy storage but are plagued by the lack of high‐performance cathode materials that enable high specific capacity, ultrafast charging, and outstanding cycling stability. Here, a laser‐scribed nano‐vanadium oxide (LNVO) cathode is designed that can simultaneously achieve these properties.

Large Scale Thin Film Photovoltaic Laser Scribing Process

2008
In view of super large-area thin film photovoltaic fabrication, laser scribing process is considered as one of the most challenging tasks. Most previous papers on large-area laser scribing process were up to 1.5 m2. In this report, laser scribing process on the size of 5.72m2 (Gen 8.5) photovoltaic modules will be presented.

Ultrashort pulse laser scribing of thin flexible glass

2016
Laser scribing of thin glass has proven problematic due to inefficient optical absorption and difficulty achieving economical processing speeds while maintaining edge quality. Laser processing of glass is pertinent to touch screen, display, microfluidic, microoptic and photovoltaic applications.
