Strengthening effect of laser shock peening on 7075-T6 aviation aluminum alloy

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
The strengthening effect and uniformity of residual stress and strain of 7075-T6 aviation aluminum after laser shock peening were investigated. The finite element simulation model of laser shot peening on 7075-T6 aviation aluminum alloy was established ...

Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 8, Page 4326-4336, August 2026.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. Toughening of TiO2 via Femtosecond Laser Shock Peening

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Most ceramics have low fracture toughness (<5 MPa m$\sqrt{m}$) at room temperature. This work explores the feasibility of toughening TiO2 via femtosecond laser shock peening (fs‐LSP). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses reveal LSP‐induced the creation of high‐density stacking faults, dislocation structures, and twin boundaries in ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Rejuvenated Amorphous Alloys: Processing Methods, Microstructures and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 33, 15 June 2026.
Three rejuvenation methods – mechanical and thermal rejuvenation, and other rejuvenation routes such as ultrasonic processing – can be used to modify structures of glassy alloys, especially atomic clusters, and therefore enhances plasticity and activates work‐hardening behaviors.

Influence of Ultrasonic‐Assisted Milling on Surface Integrity and Fatigue Strength of a Low Alloy Steel

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 2352-2362, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The milling process significantly influences the surface integrity of metallic components through machining induced near‐surface residual stresses. Modern hybrid machining processes, such as ultrasonic‐assisted milling (USAM), offer the potential to induce beneficial near‐surface compressive residual stresses compared to the near‐surface ...

Effect of co-strengthening of laser shock peening and mechanical shot peening on surface integrity and vibration fatigue properties of GH4169 alloy

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng
Vibration fatigue specimens are designed based on the load-cases of compressor blades, and performed by mechanical shot peening, laser shock peening, and co-strengthening of laser shock peening followed by mechanical shot peening respectively.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 10, 22 May 2026.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Numerical study of residual stress fields after double-sided symmetric laser shock peening of blade edge

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity
This paper deals with numerical modelling of the residual stress field formed after laser shock peening of a thin blade edge from TC4. It is shown that the application of double-sided symmetric laser shock peening is an effective way of treatment, as it ...

Accurate numerical modeling of residual stress fields induced by laser shock peening

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
To improve the accuracy of numerical simulation of laser shock peening, a novel model is developed to predict residual stress distribution. An optical beam measurement system, a white light confocal displacement sensor, and other sensors are used to ...
