Since its inception, laser has been increasingly used for treatment of multiple ocular conditions. Stimulated emission of photons in a lasing medium produces laser beams that vary in their energy according to their wavelength. Ophthalmic lasers could produce thermal, chemical, or mechanical effects on ocular tissues.

Psoriasis is a chronic disease that can affect the skin, joints and nails and seriously affect quality of life. There are many treatments available to treat, but not cure this common disorder, including topical therapies as well as systemic treatments. When limited psoriatic plaques fail to respond to traditional therapies, one option is laser therapy.

Natural sunlight’s beneficial effect on psoriasis has been long known. This observation led over the past century to the utilization of artificial light sources for the treatment of psoriasis. For over seven decades, phototherapy using artificial ultraviolet light has been an established standard in the treatment of psoriasis.

Laser therapy for periodontitis
SPIE Proceedings, 2001An investigation was made of applying pulsed (lambda) equals 0.89 micrometers laser radiation in the treatment for early diagnosed periodontitis. The investigation was made on 65 patients (47 patients constituted the experimental group and 18 patients constituted a control group) affected by periodontitis.

Laser Therapy for Bronchoscopy
Anesthesiology Clinics of North America, 1989Summary The CO2 and Nd:YAG lasers are most commonly used to treat endobronchial lesions. The patients selected for laser treatment are symptomatic because of inoperable obstructive lesions. The surgeon can treat these lesions using either a rigid or flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope.

Over the last 30 years, laser therapy has emerged as an effective primary and adjuvant treatment modality for scars. Laser therapy facilitates the selective destruction of discrete structures within the skin, as well as microscopic, spatially selective injuries to scars that result in both local and distant tissue remodeling.

Laser systems designed for eye treatment provide the surgeon tools and methods to meet the therapeutic goal for glaucoma management of reducing the level of intraocular pressure toward a target deemed appropriate for the safety of a patient and eye. Just as glaucoma takes many forms, so do the available laser treatment strategies. The appropriate laser
