Leveraging Public Transit for Robotic Deliveries: A Column Generation Approach

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are small, electric, wheeled vehicles that operate at pedestrian speeds. In the last‐mile delivery service considered in this study, a fleet of AMRs is deployed across multiple recharging depots within a service area, from which they depart to perform point‐to‐point deliveries. We consider an operational setting

Last Mile Logistics

open access: yes
The Dutch logistics market is highly fragmented, with roughly 12000 haulage firms operating in a less-than-truckload (LTL) environment. Last-mile delivery—transport from a central depot to commercial customers such as supermarkets and retailers—is the most expensive phase of freight distribution, accounting for up to 53% of total transport costs.

Modeled Subsidence of Permafrost Terrain 2025–2050: North‐Central Alaska

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A large fraction of the Alaska terrain is underlain by regolith that contains excess ice (ice that in volume exceeds the natural pore space). Possible loss of excess ice would lead to ground subsidence, which in turn would disturb and destabilize the ground surface.

Reliability of Manual Counting for Thermal Census of Bats Within Human‐Made Structures

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Bats have a critical role in ecosystems worldwide, but monitoring their populations remains challenging, particularly in complex roosts within human‐made structures. We examined the reliability of manual bat counts from thermal infrared video, a method widely used to estimate populations and evaluate computer vision censusing approaches.
