ABSTRACT Background Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a recognized trigger of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP); however, its incidence and impact on disease course in children remain controversial. Therefore, we aimed to characterize the clinical course of pediatric patients with CMV‐associated ITP.

Self-sterility May Be Due to Prezygotic Late-acting Self-incompatibility and Early-acting Inbreeding Depression in Chinese Chestnut [PDF]
Chinese chestnut ( Castanea mollissima ), which is native to China, has been cultivated as a nontimber forest tree species for 4000 years. This species has been found to display self-sterility, which results in a significantly lower seed set following self-pollination (SP) compared with that ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Article Addendum: The paradox of clonality and the evolution of self-incompatibility [PDF]
In the January issue of New Phytologist Vallejo-Marín and O’Brien documented that in the genus Solanum (Solanaceae) clonality and self-incompatibility, a common genetic mechanism enforcing cross-fertilization, co-occur more often than ...

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
