Polar structures in late-type galaxies

open access: yes, 2014
A common point of view is that stable polar structures are mainly present in the E/S0 early-type galaxies lacking dense gas in their host disks. However, nuclear, as well as external polar rings and disks also exist in the late-type hosts, including gas-rich dwarf galaxies.

UV to radio centimetric spectral energy distributions of optically-selected late-type galaxies in the Virgo cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present a multifrequency dataset for an optically-selected, volume-limited, complete sample of 118 late-type galaxies (≥S0a) in the Virgo cluster. The database includes UV, visible, near-IR, mid-IR, far-IR, radio continuum photometric data as well as ...

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

FAST Ultra-Deep Survey (FUDS): The Star Formation Histories of FUDS0 Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We present the ultraviolet, optical, and infrared counterparts of 128 galaxies detected in neutral hydrogen (H i ) in the FAST Ultra-Deep Survey (FUDS) field 0 (FUDS0).

Secular Evolution Via Bar-Driven Gas Inflow: Results from BIMA SONG

open access: yes, 2005
We present an analysis of the molecular gas distributions in the 29 barred and 15 unbarred spirals in BIMA SONG. For CO-bright galaxies, we confirm the conclusion by Sakamoto et al.

Obtaining Galaxy Masses Using Stellar Absorption and [O II] Emission-Line Diagnostics in Late-Type Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The [O II] λ3727 emission lines and absorption features from stellar Balmer and Ca H and K lines are the most accessible kinematic diagnostics in galaxies at z ∼ 1.

Patterns of wild meat and other protein consumption in the periphery of Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract In Central Africa, human activities are severely impacting terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, threatening the food security of millions of people. Accordingly, sustainable use of wildlife is crucial for the nutrition and livelihoods of many rural communities in the region.

Bulge formation in very late-type galaxies

open access: yes, 2002
The dynamical evolution of super star clusters (SSCs) moving in the background of a dark matter halo has been investigated as a possible event responsible for the formation of bulges in late-type spirals. The underlying physical processes include sinking of SSCs due to the dynamical friction and stripping of SSCs on their way to the center.

The Specific Globular Cluster Frequencies of Dwarf Elliptical Galaxies from the Hubble Space Telescope

open access: yes, 1998
The specific globular cluster frequencies (S_N) for 24 dwarf elliptical (dE) galaxies in the Virgo and Fornax Clusters and the Leo Group imaged with the Hubble Space Telescope are presented. Combining all available data, we find that for nucleated dEs ---

Does the stellar disc flattening depend on the galaxy type? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We analyze the dependence of the stellar disc flatness on the galaxy morphological type using 2D decomposition of galaxies from the reliable subsample of the Edge-on Galaxies in SDSS (EGIS) catalogue. Combining these data with the retrieved models of the
