Origins of coplanar counterrotating stellar disk components in late-type galaxies
Context. Understanding galaxy evolution is key to explaining the structures we observe in the present-day Universe. Counterrotating stellar disks, i.e., co-spatial stellar disks rotating with opposite angular momentum, have been proposed as signatures of

The inner properties of late-type galaxies
I review some recent results on the inner properties of disk galaxies, and highlight some issues that require either observational or theoretical clarification and that are important for constructing a consistent picture of the formation of the local disk galaxy population.

Abstract Production rates for the cosmogenic radionuclides 10Be, 14C, 26Al, 36Cl, 41Ca, 53Mn, and 60Fe in a large variety of meteorites, that is, ordinary chondrites (H, L, LL), carbonaceous chondrites, HED meteorites, ureilites, Martian meteorites, and iron meteorites and in the uppermost ~2 m of the lunar surface are modeled.

Automation and Augmentation in Theological Perspective
Abstract AI enables forms of automation that threaten unemployment and deskilling, eliminating important opportunities for the development of virtue. The concomitant loss of virtue and meaningful employment makes it a theological problem from the perspective of Catholic social teaching and theological anthropology.

Fungal ecology in the age of 'omics
Summary The advancement of technology in recent decades has given us an unprecedented ability to observe the natural world. With modern sequencing and bioinformatics technologies, we can obtain more information about the microscopic world, and its interactions with the macroscopic world, than ever before.

The nature of late-type spiral galaxies
We analyse V-and H-band surface photometry of a sample of 18 Sb-Sd galaxies. Combining high-resolution Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images with ground-based near-infrared observations, we extract photometric profiles, which cover the whole disc and provide the highest possible resolution.

Summary Flowering of perennial Arabis alpina is differentially regulated on primary and axillary shoots. Although contributions of vernalization and ageing pathways have been analysed, those of photoperiodic flowering genes CONSTANS (CO), FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT), and TWIN‐SISTER OF FT (TSF) remain unexplored.

ABSTRACT Forward genetics has been instrumental in identifying genes underlying desirable traits, yet its application to polyploid plants, many of which are key agricultural crops, remains challenging due to their genomic complexity. Therefore, we developed BenthMap, a bulk segregant analysis platform for high‐throughput trait mapping and gene ...

Properties of bars in the local universe
We studied the fraction and properties of bars in a sample of about 3000 galaxies extracted from SDSS-DR5. This represents a volume limited sample with galaxies located between redshift 0.01-20, and inclination i < 60.

Optical and IR luminosity functions of IRAS galaxies [PDF]
The optical and infrared luminosity functions are determined for a 60 micron flux-limited sample of 68 IRAS galaxies covering a total area of 150 deg sq. The IR function is in good agreement with that obtained by other authors.
