Dark Halos around Late-type galaxies

1985
In order to investigate the mass-to-light ratio in irregular Magellanic galaxies, a sample of 21 Sdm, Sm, Im objects, for which high-resolution velocity fields observed in 21 cm line are available in the literature, has been selected. Rotation curves, either taken from the authors or reconstructed from the original data and sometimes supplemented with ...

Ionizing the Diffuse Interstellar Medium in Late-Type Galaxies

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2001
We show how the clumpy structure of the interstellar medium (ISM) both inside HII regions and in the diffuse component, permits the propagation of ionizing photons from OB stars on kiloparsec scales.

Dark Matter in Late-Type Galaxies

1992
The status of our knowledge of the extent and distribution of dark matter in late-type galaxies is reviewed. Recent attempts to alleviate the need for dark matter in late-type galaxies are examined, but none are found to give a satisfactory explanation. The mass distribution and shapes of dark matter halos are still known only poorly.

Observational Disk Dynamics of Late-Type Galaxies

2010
(Abridged) The primary concern of this thesis is the measurement of the stellar velocity ellipsoid (SVE) in galaxy disks. While a few attempts exist in the literature, we know of no study providing as detailed a discussion of the empirical procedure nor of the associated errors in SVE measurements as that presented herein. This is despite the relevance
