Petrogenesis of the Solanas gabbro-granodiorite intrusion, Sàrrabus (southeastern Sardinia, Italy): implications for Late Variscan magmatism

open access: yesInternational Journal of Earth Sciences, 2019
The igneous complex of Solanas is a small, composite calc-alkaline intrusion emplaced at ~ 300 Ma in the Sarrabus region (southeastern Sardinia), and consists of olivine gabbronorites, amphibole gabbros, microgabbros, quartz diorites, tonalites, amphibole granodiorites, and biotite granodiorites.

Evidence for surface uplift of the Atlas Mountains and the surrounding peripheral plateaux: Combining apatite fission-track results and geomorphic indicators in the Western Moroccan Meseta (coastal Variscan Paleozoic basement) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This work represents an initial attempt to link the evolution of the topography in relation to the general tectonic framework of western Morocco. For this purpose, in a section of the Western Moroccan Meseta different tools are combined in order to ...

Variscan sourcing of Westphalian (Pennsylvanian) sandstones in the Canobie Coalfield, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The zircon age spectrum in a sample from the Canonbie Bridge Sandstone Formation (Asturian) of southern Scotland contains two main peaks. One is Early Carboniferous in age (348– 318 Ma), and corresponds to the age of igneous activity during the ...

Reconstructing a Super-Eruption From the Upper Ordovician Period in the Eastern Pyrenees, Spain [PDF]

open access: yesLithosphere
The Pyrenean basement rocks, NE of the Iberian Peninsula, southwestern Europe, include evidence of several pre-Variscan magmatic episodes which indicate the complex geodynamic history of this segment of the northern Gondwana margin from late ...

A Sb ± Au mineralizing peak at 360 Ma in the Variscan belt

open access: yesBSGF - Earth Sciences Bulletin, 2019
40Ar/39Ar absolute dating on tobelite (an ammonium-rich white mica) has been performed in order to provide geochronological constraints on the Sb ± Au mineralization and hydrothermalism at the Saint-Aubin-des-Châteaux base metal-Sb ± Au occurrence ...

Late Palaeozoic tectonics in Central Mediterranean: a reappraisal

open access: yesSwiss Journal of Geosciences, 2020
A revision of late Palaeozoic tectonics recorded in Tuscany, Calabria and Corsica is here presented. We propose that, in Tuscany, upper Carboniferous-Permian shallow-marine to continental sedimentary basins, characterized by unconformities and abrupt ...

Polyphase W-Sn mineralization and rare metal magmatism in relation to the late-Variscan tectono-metamorphic evolution of the southeastern French Massif Central

open access: yesMineralium Deposita, 2023
The southeastern French Massif Central represents an ideal area to study the linkage between regional metamorphism, crustal partial melting, emplacement of granitic magmas, and hydrothermal Sn-W mineralization in a polyphase tectono-metamorphic setting related to the late-Variscan orogeny.

Th-U-total Pb timing constraints on the emplacement of the granitoid pluton of Stolpen, Germany [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Monazite from the Stolpen monzogranite (SE Germany) was studied to constrain the Th-U-total Pb age of pluton formation. Monazite grains demonstrate subtle to distinct patchy zoning related to slight compositional variations.

U‒Pb ages and Hf isotopic composition of zircons in Austrian last glacial loess: constraints on heavy mineral sources and sediment transport pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Loess sediments in Austria deposited ca. 30‒20 ka ago yield different zircon age signatures for samples collected around Krems (SE Bohemian Massif; samples K23 and S1) and Wels (half-way between the Bohemian Massif and the Eastern Alps; sample A16 ...

Episodic melting and magmatic recycling along 50 Ma in the Variscan belt linked to the orogenic evolution in NW Iberia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The advent of a large amount of more precise U-Pb age data on Variscan granitoids from NW Iberia in recent years has provided a more focused picture of the magmatic history of the Western European Variscan belt (WEVB).
