Late Oligocene-early Miocene birth of the Taklimakan Desert. [PDF]
Significance The formation of the Taklimakan Desert marked a major geological event in central Asia during the Cenozoic, with far-reaching impacts. Deposition of both eolian sand dunes in the basin center and the genetically equivalent loessite along the basin margins provide evidence for the birth of the Taklimakan Desert.

Late Oligocene—Early Miocene shortening in the Thrace Basin, northern Aegean [PDF]
AbstractLate Cenozoic was a period of large-scale extension in the Aegean. The extension is mainly recorded in the metamorphic core complexes with little data from the sedimentary sequences. The exception is the Thrace Basin in the northern Aegean, which has a continuous record of Middle Eocene to Oligocene marine sedimentation.

?Amphictis (Carnivora, Ailuridae) from the Belgrade Formation of North Carolina, USA [PDF]
Miocene terrestrial mammals are poorly known from the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Fossils of the Order Carnivora from this time and region are especially rare.

Alkenone producers during late Oligocene–early Miocene revisited [PDF]
This study investigates ancient alkenone producers among the late Oligocene–early Miocene coccolithophores recorded at Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) Site 516. Contrary to common assumptions, Reticulofenestra was not the most important alkenone producer throughout the studied time interval.

The timing, sequence, and scale of uplift of the Himalayan–Tibetan Orogen (HTO) are controversially debated. Many geoscientific studies assume paleoelevations close to present-day elevations and the existence of alpine environments across the HTO already

Evolution of Asian Interior Arid-Zone Biota: Evidence from the Diversification of Asian Zygophyllum (Zygophyllaceae). [PDF]
The Asian interior arid zone is the largest desert landform system in the Northern Hemisphere, and has high biodiversity. Little is currently known about the evolutionary history of its biota.

Global shifts in Noelaerhabdaceae assemblages during the late Oligocene–early Miocene [PDF]
This study investigates abundance variations in Noelaerhabdaceae assemblages during the late Oligocene–early Miocene at three subtropical sites in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans (DSDP Sites 516, 608 and 588). At these three sites, nannofossil assemblages were characterized by the successive high proportion of Cyclicargolithus, Dictyococcites and ...
