Late Quaternary relative sea level change in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Models have been inconsistent in their prediction of ice sheet volumes and extent over the Antarctic Peninsula and sub-Antarctic islands during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), and their contribution to sea level rise during subsequent deglaciation ...

Neogene and quaternary planktonic foraminifer biostratigraphy and biochronology in Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea

open access: yes, 1989
During Ocean Drilling Program Leg 105, 11 holes were drilled in the Labrador Sea and Baffin Bay. Site 645 in Baffin Bay was drilled to a depth of 1147 meters below seafloor (mbsf); planktonic foraminifers were recovered in the upper 110.3 m and in a ...

A Q‐Learning Algorithm to Solve the Two‐Player Zero‐Sum Game Problem for Nonlinear Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 566-581, March 2025.
A Q‐learning algorithm to solve the two‐player zero‐sum game problem for nonlinear systems. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the two‐player zero‐sum game problem, which is a bounded L2$$ {L}_2 $$‐gain robust control problem. Finding an analytical solution to the complex Hamilton‐Jacobi‐Issacs (HJI) equation is a challenging task.

Localization of Quaternary slip rates in an active rift in 10(5) years: an example from central Greece constrained by U-234-Th-230 coral dates from uplifted paleoshorelines

open access: yes, 2009
Mapping, dating, and modeling of paleoshorelines uplifted in the footwall of the 1981 Gulf of Corinth earthquake fault, Greece (Ms 6.9–6.7), are used to assess its slip rate history relative to other normal faults in the area and study strain ...

Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Late Quaternary right-lateral slip rate along the Tangyuan segment of the Yilan–Yitong Fault Zone on the NE China Plain

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The slip rate of strike-slip active faults is crucial for fault rupture behavior analysis and seismic hazard assessment. Although many segments of the Yilan–Yitong Fault Zone (YYFZ) in NE China have been strongly deformed since the late Quaternary ...

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Late Quaternary glacial advances in the eastern Qilianshan, north-eastern Tibet, as inferred from luminescence dating of fluvioglacial sediments

open access: yes, 2016
The Qilianshan [shan means mountain(s)' in Chinese] are important for understanding the Quaternary glaciations which occurred along the north-eastern margins of the Tibetan Plateau (TP). Two sets of moraines identified in the Gangshika Valley on the
