Measuring Audio-Visual Latencies in Virtual Reality Systems

open access: yes
In virtual reality (VR) systems, delays may occur while the signal passes through hardware and software components, thus causing asynchrony or even cybersickness, as a result. To better understand and control the role of delays in VR experiments, we tested an accessible method for measuring audio and visual end-to-end latency between game engines ...

Physical Reservoir Computing for Smart Manufacturing of PCB Using Crystallinity‐Controlled HfO2 Memristor for Reservoir

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We address multilayer PCB anomaly detection for smart manufacturing by physical reservoir computing with HfO2‐based memristors. Crystallinity‐tuned HfO2 suppresses ferroelectricity while preserving the high‐k insulating state and confers strong short‐term memory.

Terrestrial Cyborg Insects for Real‐Life Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article reviews the development of terrestrial cyborg insects from their emergence in 1997 to mid‐2025, examining three key aspects: locomotion control methods, associated challenges with proposed solutions, and practical applications. Framing these biohybrid systems as insect‐scale mobile robots, the review provides foundational insights for new ...

Low-latency Assistive Audio Enhancement for Neurodivergent People

open access: yes
Neurodivergent people frequently experience decreased sound tolerance, with estimates suggesting it affects 50-70% of this population. This heightened sensitivity can provoke reactions ranging from mild discomfort to severe distress, highlighting the critical need for assistive audio enhancement technologies In this paper, we propose several assistive ...

ControlIt: A Universal Framework for Translational, Adaptive, and Online Brain–Computer Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) lack a unified platform that works across signals and algorithms. ControlIt, an open‐source, modular ROS2‐based BCI framework supporting electroencephalography (EEG), electrocorticography (ECoG), and spike‐based decoding across both classification and regression tasks is presented.

‘Keeping Ourselves Safe From the System’: Perinatal Care Model Considerations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families Intersecting With Child Protection

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT It is the priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and Australian governments, to provide infants with enriching environments in which they may thrive. This is particularly critical during the perinatal period. Yet, an increasing number of notifications and interventions by child protection authorities are occurring in ...
