HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Exploring the Patterns of Skill Development by Mixture Growth Modeling: Using the Batting Average Data on Professional Baseball Players [PDF]
Reviewing latent growth modeling for longitudinal data and some results using this methodology on career development, mixture modeling methodologies were introduced for identifying clusters of individuals following similar developmental trajectories ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Hippocampal subfields and limbic white matter jointly predict learning rate in older adults
First published online: 04 December 2019Age-related memory impairments have been linked to differences in structural brain parameters, including cerebral white matter (WM) microstructure and hippocampal (HC) volume, but their combined influences are ...

Latent Markov and growth mixture models for ordinal individual responses with covariates: A comparison [PDF]
AbstractObjectiveWe review two alternative ways of modeling stability and change of longitudinal data by using time‐fixed and time‐varying covariates for the observed individuals. Both the methods build on the foundation of finite mixture models, and are commonly applied in many fields but they look at the data from different perspectives.

Objectives There is growing interest in evaluating new strategies to delay or prevent post‐traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in individuals who have sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This study sought to determine characteristics of potential treatments that are acceptable to patients with ACL injury.

Posterior Contraction Rates of the Phylogenetic Indian Buffet Processes [PDF]
By expressing prior distributions as general stochastic processes, nonparametric Bayesian methods provide a flexible way to incorporate prior knowledge and constrain the latent structure in statistical inference.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.
