HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Multivariate Spatial Autoregressive Model with Latent Variables: Application to Economic Growth Modeling [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences
Research involving causal relationships among latent variables that generally use structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis and spatial data simultaneously has an unavoidable impact on using spatial SEM analysis.

Effects of APOEɛ4 genotype on age-associated change in cognitive functions among Japanese middle-aged and older adults: A 20-year follow-up study

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology, 2023
Background and aims: Carriers of the apolipoprotein E ε4 allele (APOEɛ4) have an increased risk of developing dementia (e.g., Alzheimer's disease). However, it is less clear whether the APOEɛ4 might also be involved in cognitive aging among the non ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy deformed along different strain paths: Role of latent hardening

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2023
The mechanical properties of magnesium alloy AZ31 were investigated experimentally with visco-plastic self-consistent modeling. Tension, compression and plane strain compression (PSC) tests were performed along 3 directions of a hot rolled plate, and the

Latent Class Growth Modelling: A Tutorial [PDF]

open access: yesTutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology, 2009
The present work is an introduction to Latent Class Growth Modelling (LCGM). LCGM is a semi-parametric statistical technique used to analyze longitudinal data. It is used when the data follows a pattern of change in which both the strength and the direction of the relationship between the independent and dependent variables differ across cases.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Multidimensional Profiling of MRI‐Negative Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Uncovers Distinct Phenotypes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Although hippocampal sclerosis (TLE‐HS) represents the most frequent cause of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), up to 30% of patients show no lesion on visual MRI inspection (TLE‐MRIneg). These cases pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and are underrepresented in surgical series.

Measuring the performance of LPA, LCGA, LGCM, and GMM in identifying the homogenous subgroups (latent classes) within the wider heterogeneous population of patients on DTG

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
BackgroundIdentifying heterogeneity in longitudinal data is critical for understanding diverse trajectories in clinical and epidemiological research. Traditional analytical methods often fail to distinguish latent subpopulations.

Bayesian modeling of embryonic growth using latent variables [PDF]

open access: yesBiostatistics, 2007
In a growth model, individuals move progressively through a series of states in which each state is indicative of developmental status. Interest lies in estimating the rate of progression through each state while incorporating covariates that might affect the transition rates.
