What determines the distribution of shallow convective mass flux through cloud base?

open access: yes, 2017
The distribution of cloud-base mass flux is studied using large-eddy simulations (LES) of two reference cases, one representing conditions over the tropical ocean, and another one representing mid-latitude conditions over land.

Gross thermodynamics of two-component core convection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We model the inner core by an alloy of iron and 8 per cent sulphur or silicon and the outer core by the same mix with an additional 8 per cent oxygen.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Meniscus Pixel Printing for Contact‐Lens Vision Sensing and Robotic Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A visual‐sensing contact lens is enabled by meniscus pixel printing (MPP), which rapidly patterns a 200 µm perovskite photodetector pixel in 1 s without masks, vacuum processing, or bulky equipment. A deep‐learning‐based super‐resolution reconstructs sparse on‐lens signals into 80 × 80 high‐resolution visual information, while AI‐driven eye‐tracking ...

Latent Heat Fluxes over Complex Terrain from Airborne Water Vapour and Wind Lidars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Tropospheric profiles of water vapour and wind were measured with a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and a heterodyne detection Doppler wind lidar collo-cated onboard the DLR Falcon research aircraft in the past two years.

Multi‐Scale Interface Engineering of MXenes for Multifunctional Sensory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXenes, as two‐dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, demonstrate remarkable capabilities for multifunctional sensing applications. This review systematically examines multi‐scale interface engineering approaches that enhance sensing performance, enable diverse detection functionalities, and improve system‐level compatibility in MXene ...

Comparison of Latent Heat Flux Using Aerodynamic Methods and Using the Penman–Monteith Method with Satellite-Based Surface Energy Balance

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2014
A surface energy balance was conducted to calculate the latent heat flux (λE) using aerodynamic methods and the Penman–Monteith (PM) method. Computations were based on gridded weather and Landsat satellite reflected and thermal data.

The surface energy balance of a polygonal tundra site in northern Siberia – Part 1: Spring to fall [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2011
In this article, we present a study on the surface energy balance of a polygonal tundra landscape in northeast Siberia. The study was performed during half-year periods from April to September in each of 2007 and 2008.

Atomic Layer Deposition in Transistors and Monolithic 3D Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics. This review summarizes recent progress in atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the synthesis of two‐dimensional (2D) metal oxides and transition‐metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with particular emphasis on their enabling role in monolithic three‐dimensional (M3D) integration for next ...

Simulation of Land Surface Climate over China with RegCM4.5: Verification and Analysis

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, 2018
The ability of RegCM4.5 using land surface scheme CLM4.5 to simulate the physical variables related to land surface state was investigated. The NCEP-NCAR reanalysis data for the period 1964–2003 were used to drive RegCM4.5 to simulate the land surface ...
