Realist Identification of Group-Level Latent Variables for Perinatal Social Epidemiology Theory Building

International Journal of Health Services, 2014
We have previously reported in this journal on an ecological study of perinatal depressive symptoms in South Western Sydney. In that article, we briefly reported on a factor analysis that was utilized to identify empirical indicators for analysis. In this article, we report on the mixed method approach that was used to identify those latent variables.

A dual-perspective latent factor model for group-aware social event recommendation

Information Processing & Management, 2017
A dual-perspective of group influence on event recommendation is investigated.A novel probabilistic latent factor model with pairwise ranking is proposed to model the dual effect of groups. The proposed model is flexible to further incorporate additional contextual information including event venue, event popularity, and geographical distance ...

Detecting Spamming Groups in Social Media Based on Latent Graph

2015
Spammers in microblogging services aim to disseminate unuseful or misleading information, which leads to poor user experience and negative impact on the ecosystem of social media platform. Individual spammer detection, based on content and social network information, has been proposed to alleviate this predicament.

Latent Interest-Group Discovery and Management by Peer-to-Peer Online Social Networks

2013 International Conference on Social Computing, 2013
We address management of latent, emerging interest groups (IGs), spanning both unsupervised, distributed IG discovery and any cast-query forwarding, in dynamic peer-to-peer(P2P) on-line social networks. The P2P network has at least one layer of super-peers (Diaspora pods) that support a group of ordinary peers/clients.

Self-Attentive Graph Convolution Network With Latent Group Mining and Collaborative Filtering for Personalized Recommendation

IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, 2021
The remarkable progress of machine learning has led to some state-of-the-art algorithms in personalized recommendation. Previous recommendation algorithms generally learn users’ and items’ representations based on a user-item rating matrix.

Two Latent Groups Influencing Subjective Social Status: Middle Class Tendency and Clear Class Consciousness

Social Indicators Research, 2021
Previous studies clarified that many individuals tend to attribute themselves into the middle-class, explaining this tendency by referring to group reference theory. This article aims to explore the formation of subjective social status from a different point of view.

Identifying and predicting stereotype change in large language corpora: 72 groups, 115 years (1900-2015), and four text sources.

Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 2023
The social world is carved into a complex variety of groups each associated with unique stereotypes that persist and shift over time. Innovations in natural language processing (word embeddings) enabled this comprehensive study on variability and ...

Latent Topic Analysis for Predicting Group Purchasing Behavior on the Social Web

2013
Group-deal websites, where customers purchase products or services in groups, are an interesting phenomenon on the Web. Each purchase is kicked off by a group initiator, and other customers can join in. Customers form communities with people with similar interests and preferences (as in a social network), and this drives bulk purchasing (similar to ...
