Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Investigation of normal, lateral, and oblique impact of microscale projectiles into unidirectional glass/epoxy composites

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2022
Spacesuits and spacecraft must endure high velocity impacts from micrometeoroids. This work considers the impact of 100 μm diameter projectiles into composite targets at velocities from 0.5 km/s to 2 km/s.

Chirality in Quantum Computation with Spin Cluster Qubits

open access: yes, 2004
We study corrections to the Heisenberg interaction between several lateral, single-electron quantum dots. We show, using exact diagonalization, that three-body chiral terms couple triangular configurations to external sources of flux rather strongly. The

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Assessment of Force-Deflection Relations of Steel Tubular Members under Lateral Quasi-Static Impacts from Dropped Objects

open access: yesنشریه مهندسی دریا, 2015
In the current study a numerical simulation approach has been chosen to simulate the force-deflection response of tubular member under lateral impact in the absence of internal pressure or axial force and the results have then been compared with ...

Dynamic analysis of debris flow impact on double-column bridge piers based on SPH-FEM coupling

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban
Based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics-finite element method (SPH-FEM), a dynamic interaction model of debris flow, comprising both slurry and boulders as well as impacting a double-column bridge pier, is constructed to study the dynamic response ...

Electronic Transport and Thermopower in 2D and 3D Heterostructures--A Theory Perspective

open access: yes, 2019
In this review, we discuss the impact of interfaces and heterojuctions on the electronic and thermoelectric transport properties of materials. We review recent progress in understanding electronic transport in two-dimensional (2D) materials ranging from ...

Lateral stress evolution in chromium sulfide cermets with varying excess chromium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The shock response of chromium sulfide-chromium, a cermet of potential interest as a matrix material for ballistic applications, has been investigated at two molar ratios.
