Load-Deflection response of transversely isotropic piles under lateral loads

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2000
Using Timoshenko beam theory, the authors analyse the load-deflection response of transversely isotropic piles under lateral loads. It is found that the deflection of pile, if the shear deformation effect is considered, is always larger than if it were neglected.

Laterally Loaded Unreinforced Walls

1981
It is possible to distinguish two categories of wall in relation to lateral strength: firstly, wall panels, the resistance of which depend primarily on the flexural strength of brickwork and, secondly, those whose resistance depends on the action of in-plane forces« The first category of walls are those found in low-rise buildings and in the upper ...

Design of Laterally Loaded Plating—Concentrated Loads

Journal of Ship Research, 1983
In the design of plating subject to lateral loading, the principal load effect to be considered is the amount of permanent set, that is, the maximum permanent deflection in the center of each panel of plating bounded by the stiffeners and the crossbeams. The present paper is complementary to a previous paper [1]2 which dealt with uniform pressure loads.

Behaviour of laterally loaded pile

2018
Monopiles have been by far the most common support structure for offshore turbines. They have always been an appropriate solution for complex site conditions. Design of monopiles is usually based on the use of nonlinear p-y curve. These curves are primordially based on the use of simple constitutive models for soil, such as Tresca criterion. Since soil

Ultimate lateral load resistance of laterally loaded pile

2009
Several methods are available for predicting ultimate lateral load resistance of laterally loaded pile. These methods often produce significantly different ultimate lateral resistance. This makes it difficult to select an appropriate method in designing/predicting ultimate lateral resistance of pile.

Design of Laterally Loaded Plating—Uniform Pressure Loads

Journal of Ship Research, 1981
An explicit formula is presented for the design of welded steel plates subjected to uniform lateral pressure, on the basis of a designer-specified level of acceptable permanent set, including that due to welding. The formula is derived from a combination of theoretical and experimental studies and shows good agreement with experimental results. For the

Lateral Loads on Power Boilers

Journal of the Energy Division, 1979
The structural section of power-boiler specifications should include lateral-force design criteria to minimize the possibility for critical damage and resulting financial loss during a furnace explosion. Boilers designed for 20% g have survived violent explosions with moderate structural damage.
