Pore pressures and strains after repeated loading of saturated clay [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Repeated and sustained loading tests on undrained samples of normally consolidated lacustrine clay are used to prove the existence of a relationship between pore water pressures and axial strains. The behavior of the clay is studied by investigating the ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Negative Friction and Lateral Loading on Piles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
An example is first given of a structure founded on piles and having suffered damages caused by negative friction and passive lateral loading on the supporting piles.

Model Tests of Concrete-Filled Fiber Reinforced Polymer Tube Composite Pile Under Cyclic Lateral Loading

open access: yesBuildings
Concrete-filled FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) tube composite piles offer superior corrosion resistance, making them a promising alternative to traditional piles in marine environments. However, their performance under cyclic lateral loads, such as those

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Lateral Response of a Single Pile under Combined Axial and Lateral Cyclic Loading in Sandy Soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
According to practical situation, there have been limited investigations on the response of piles subjected to combined loadings especially when subjected to cyclic lateral loads.

Calculation model for lateral response of piles considering the characteristics of sand convection under asymmetric cyclic loading

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Pile foundations supporting wind turbines and offshore platforms are always subjected to asymmetric lateral cyclic loads from wind and waves. To calculate the lateral response of the pile in sand under asymmetric cyclic loading, this paper proposes a p−y

Discrepancies Between Micro Versus Macroscale Viscoelastic Properties in a Microplastic‐Tissue Composite Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the discrepancies between bulk mechanics and spatial mapping in a tissue‐mimetic hydrogel model. Microplastic particles create localized stiff mechanical microenvironments that are detectable by cellular‐scale nanoindentation but leave bulk properties unchanged as measured by rheology.

Controlling Grain Growth in Powder Bed Fusion of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia Using Femtosecond Lasers: Challenges and Methodological Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Binder‐free laser powder bed fusion of 8YSZ with a femtosecond laser is used to map process windows linking scan strategy, heat accumulation, and grain growth. Time‐resolved thermography and simulations reveal thermal regimes that enable continuous, vitrified, and fine‐grained 8YSZ surface layers without absorptive additives and demonstrate ...
