Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Main rotor-tail rotor intraction and its implications for helicopter directional control [PDF]
Aerodynamic interference between the main and tail rotor can have a strong negative influence on the flight mechanics of a conventional helicopter. Significant unsteadiness in the tail rotor loading is encountered under certain flight conditions, but the

Acoustic Measures Capture Speech Dysfunction in Spinocerebellar Ataxia
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA) are hereditary cerebellar degenerative disorders with a common feature of dysarthria, involving impaired phonatory and articulatory control of speech, thereby affecting social communication. In this study, we investigated whether acoustic measures could objectively measure speech dysfunction and identify

Force Performance Analysis of Pile Behavior of the Lateral Load
This study was focused on the performance of the pile force at the lateral load of an arched bridge. The effect of the compression of arch bridges creates a large horizontal load.

Evaluation of the Spherical Flange Concept for a Rocket Engine [PDF]
Due to the inherent tolerance variability of hardware, flange misalignments occur during installation of mating components for a liquid propellant rocket engine. Flange misalignments include axial, lateral, and angular offsets. If these misalignments are

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Shear-lag effect and its effect on the design of high-rise buildings
For super high-rise buildings, the analysis and selection of suitable structural solutions are very important. The structure has not only to carry the gravity loads (self-weight, live load, etc.), but also to resist lateral loads (wind and earthquake ...
