Luminal Phospholipase D Attacks Bacterial Membranes in Dictyostelium discoideum Phagosomes

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
This study shows that PldX, a luminal Phospholipase D, is necessary for the efficient destruction of ingested Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria in Dictyostelium discoideum phagosomes. PldX and the AlyL lysozyme together attack the bacterial membrane and permeabilize it. To date, the molecular substrate of PldX remains to be determined. ABSTRACT Phagocytic

A New Aerosol‐Based Photobioreactor for the Cultivation of Cyanobacteria on Luffa

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 122, Issue 7, Page 1669-1683, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Cyanobacteria are promising organisms for sustainable biotechnology due to their ability to grow photoautotrophically and their wide range of products. Many cyanobacteria grow in the form of biofilms, which is why the development of photobioreactors (PBR) for the cultivation of cyanobacteria in the form of biofilms is of great interest ...

Validation of the ABC Method for Gastric Cancer Risk Stratification Across Helicobacter pylori Infections With Diverse CagA Status and Subtypes in Brazil

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 13, July 2025.
This prospective study in Brazil demonstrates the clinical relevance of CagA‐diverse Helicobacter pylori infections for gastric cancer risk assessment. The ABC method reliably identified low‐risk individuals (Group A) and may help reduce unnecessary endoscopies in screening programs, regardless of CagA status and subtypes.

Immuno - diagnostic techniques in aquatic animal diseases - Winter school on recent advances in diagnosis and management of diseases in mariculture, 7th to 27th November 2002, Course Manual [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Diagnosis plays an important role in any disease control programme. The realization that techniques applied for human medicine and farm animal medicine can be equally used for aquatic animal disease management led to the application of all diagnostic ...

Self‐Ambivalence Is Indirectly Associated With Obsessive‐Compulsive and Eating Disorder Symptoms Through Different Feared Self‐Themes

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Psychology, Volume 81, Issue 7, Page 619-627, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives Uncertainty regarding the self and fear of self have been independently identified as relevant to both obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) and eating disorders (EDs). The present study aimed to examine self‐ambivalence (an indicator of uncertainty regarding the self often characterized by conflicting self‐beliefs) as a potential ...

MEMS reagent and sample handling procedure: Feasibility of viral antibody detection by passive immune agglutination [PDF]

open access: yes
An attempt was made to develop a test requiring no preadsorption steps for the assessment of antibodies to rubella and mumps viruses using the passive immune agglutination (PIA) method. Both rubella and mumps antigens and antibodies were prepared. Direct

Predicting voluntary contributions by “revealed‐preference Nash‐equilibrium”

open access: yesEconomic Inquiry, Volume 63, Issue 3, Page 846-864, July 2025.
Abstract One‐shot public‐good situations are prominent in the public debate, and a prime example for behavior diverging from the standard Nash‐equilibrium. Could a Nash‐equilibrium predict one‐shot public‐good behavior in principle? A “revealed‐preference Nash‐equilibrium” (rpne) out‐of‐sample predicts behavior, outperforming other social‐preference ...

Beyond Surface Level: Evaluating Spatial Incongruencies in High‐Resolution Bottom Temperature Trends for the Gulf of Mexico, 1996–2012

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 34, Issue 4, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Semi‐enclosed seas present complex and nonlinear challenges to understanding climate impacts on fisheries because continental margins restrict poleward movement by taxa seeking to maintain preferred temperatures. The Gulf of Mexico (GoM), a semi‐enclosed, marginal sea surrounded by the North American continent, supports many economically and ...

Association of the gut microbiota with type 2 diabetes: Links to disease and remission in the Japanese population

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 16, Issue 7, Page 1315-1324, July 2025.
Association of gut microbiota with type 2 diabetes and its remission was examined in a population‐based study. Specific gut microbes were significantly associated with T2D and its remission. The gut microbiota may represent a potential area for further exploration in T2D treatment and prevention.

Protection of naringenin chalcone by a pathogenesis‐related 10 protein promotes flavonoid biosynthesis in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 247, Issue 1, Page 233-248, July 2025.
Summary Pathogenesis‐related (PR) proteins are diverse stress‐ or pathogen‐induced proteins. Some are associated with specialised metabolism, including proposed functions for anthocyanin biosynthesis. However, data are limited to a few angiosperm species, and the mode(s) of action are uncertain.
