Doubting Thomas: Aquinas on Doubt and the Act of Faith
Abstract Several modern theologians affirm that doubt is compatible with faith, even as authoritative voices from the Christian tradition deny this. While Thomas Aquinas is often seen as an exemplar of the traditional view, few scholars have devoted serious attention to the nature of doubt in Thomas’ thought.

The images of the Annunciation of the 14th and 15th centuries often include in their scene a bed with evident prominence, which allows us to conjecture that this piece of furniture contains some symbolism of particular relevance. Given such unusual detail, this article seeks to interpret the possible doctrinal meanings that this bed could provide.

In this paper, a comparison is made between Jerome’s and Petrus Chrysologus’ interpretations of the parable of the prodigal son. In Letter 21, written in 383/384, Jerome responds to a request by Pope Damasus to clarify specific questions about this well-known parable.

Traditional translation economics have created a self-reinforcing canon: popular authors receive multiple translations while large bodies of work remain locked behind a language barrier that few contemporary readers can cross.
