Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Theoretical Analysis of the Thermal Balance of Thermal Loss Accidents in Shilin, Yellow River, Gansu Province, and Ailao Mountain, Yunnan Province, in 2021

open access: yesRedai dili
Hypothermia is a type of safety accident that is often neglected in field activities. Its occurrence is not only a medical problem but also a thermodynamic problem and involves a specific geographical environment.

Sporadic Aurora near Geomagnetic Equator: In the Philippines, on 27 October 1856 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
While low latitude auroral displays are normally considered to be a manifestation of magnetic storms of considerable size, Silverman (2003, JGR, 108, A4) reported numerous "sporadic auroras" which appear locally at relatively low magnetic latitudes ...

Cloud Inspired White and Grey Plasmonic Metasurfaces for Camouflaged Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by clouds' role in Earth's thermal management, this work presents disordered plasmonic metasurfaces that mimic their radiative effects. The white metasurface enhances backscattering, acting as a cooling layer with camouflage properties.

Effect of location on dwarf French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seed production and seedling vigour

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Scandinavica. Section B, Soil and Plant Science, 2020
This study examined if dwarf French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown at northern latitudes develop seeds with superior yielding potential compared with plants grown at more southern latitudes.

A Sleeve Alters the Pressure‐Stretch Curve of a Hyperelastic Balloon to Enable Pre‐Programmed Sequencing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This article demonstrates that encasing a hyperelastic balloon in an inextensible sleeve greatly increases its burst pressure. This simple mechanical behavior can be used to produce an asymmetric inflation‐deflation sequence for coupled balloons with different thicknesses so they could serve as a soft robot's rear and front anchors when driven from a ...

Geographical Latitude Remains as an Important Factor for the Prevalence of Some Myositis Autoantibodies: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
The idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) are characterized by muscular weakness, cutaneous manifestations, muscle damage revealed by increase of muscular enzymes, muscle biopsy, electromyography and changes on magnetic resonance imaging. However, the

The Variation of Latitude

open access: yesBulletin Géodésique, 1925
The work of reducing the observations made at the three remaining international latitude stations has been, since September, 1922, under the direction of Prof. H. Kimura who has recently published preliminary results. There is a serious gap in the definitive reductions of the international stations; these have been published only through 1912.

How to Manufacture Photonic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Metamaterials boast applications such as invisibility and “hyperlenses” with resolution beyond the diffraction limit, but these applications haven’t been exploited in earnest and the market for them hasn’t grown much likely because facile and economical methods for fabricating them without defect has not emerged.

On How High-Latitude Chorus Waves Tip the Balance Between Acceleration and Loss of Relativistic Electrons. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Modeling and observations have shown that energy diffusion by chorus waves is an important source of acceleration of electrons to relativistic energies.
