Effect of microstructure evolution on the mechanical and corrosion behavior of AlxCuCrTiV(x = 1.7, 2.7) high entropy alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study investigates the effects of varying Al content on the microstructure, mechanical performance, and corrosion resistance of AlxCuCrTiV (x = 1.7, 2.7) high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared using vacuum arc melting.

3D‐Printed Titanium Gyroid Scaffold Structure Integrated With Tough Hybrid Materials for Cartilage Replacement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a potential device design for joint cartilage replacement. Silica‐polytetrahydrofuran (SiO2‐PolyTHF) hybrids with customizable mechanical properties were developed to mimic the characteristics of a natural meniscus. These were synthesized through a two‐pot sol–gel hybrid process.

Suppressed radiation damage by alloying elements mixture: a demonstration in V-Nb-based multi-principal element alloys

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Ion irradiation effects are comparatively investigated in V-Nb-based alloys (V-xNb, x = 0–100 at.%) and an equiatomic VNbTaTi quaternary alloy. The smallest defect size and highest defect density are observed in V-50Nb in the binary system.

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Distortion product otoacoustic emissions: challenging existing theory

open access: yes, 2010
Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE or DP) are generated using two primary tones at frequencies f1 and f2 at levels L1 and L2; the two most prominent DP are cubic distortion products at the frequencies 2f1f2 and 2f2f1.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Lattice distortion of quantum cryocrystals under pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The hcp lattice distortion parameter δ, the deviation of c/a ratio from the ideal hcp value √ 8/3 , have been calculated for solid He under pressure taking into account two- and three-body interatomic forces. The resulting lattice distortion parameter is

Achieving excellent mechanical properties in CoNiCrMo multi-principal element alloys: A comprehensive approach integrating mean square atomic displacement and machine learning method

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Screening alloys with excellent strength and ductility in the huge compositional space of multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs) is challenging. This study combines thermodynamic calculations, first principles calculations, and machine learning (ML ...

Chemical State Detection and Charge Transfer in Complex Oxide Heterostructures via In Situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy resolves oxidation states with high fidelity during the pulsed laser deposition of multivalent perovskite manganate and vanadate heterostructures. The chemical‐state signature is carried by the valence‐electron population of the transition‐metal cation, read out through the relative intensities of Auger fine ...
