Gabor frames and deep scattering networks in audio processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper introduces Gabor scattering, a feature extractor based on Gabor frames and Mallat's scattering transform. By using a simple signal model for audio signals specific properties of Gabor scattering are studied.

Comparative Insights Into the Structural, Electronic, Elastic, Vibrational, and Optical Properties of Rare‐Earth Palladium Borides RBPd3 (R = Lu, Yb)

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
This study focuses on the ground‐state properties of two rare earth palladium borides, LuBPd3 and YbBPd3. The WIEN2k package is used to investigate the properties. The compounds’ exceptional thermal and optoelectronic properties make them suitable for high‐temperature applications, UV absorbers, and infrared (IR) shielding materials.

Advances in classical and quantum wave dynamics on quasiperiodic lattices : a dissertation submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Physics, Centre for Theoretical Chemistry and Physics, New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study, Massey University, Albany, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lattices and discrete networks are cornerstones of a number of scientific subjects. In condensed matter, optical lattices allowed the experimental realization of several theoretically predicted phenomena.

Early use of the reinforced concrete in the architecture of the Historicism in Austria–Hungary

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The study examines the early incorporation of reinforced concrete in the architecture of Historicism in Austria–Hungary. Spanning the late 19th to early 20th centuries, the research illuminates the period's stylistic pluralism and the transformative impact of reinforced concrete.

Concrete in architecture: Redefining form, space, function, and insights from bibliometric analysis

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Concrete has become a cornerstone in architectural and engineering innovation, as it seamlessly integrates structural performance with artistic expression. Its evolution from ancient opus caementicium to contemporary ultra‐high‐performance concrete illustrates its adaptability to the change in technological, environmental, and design paradigms.

No one should die alone: “Just holding hands” among vigil volunteers in Denmark

open access: yesEthos, EarlyView.
Abstract A wealth of societal concerns about loneliness has surfaced in recent years, raising questions about the negative impacts of increasing social lacks. Exploring a widespread saying among Danish vigil volunteers that “No one should die alone,” we ask: What is at stake in this concern with lonely deaths? And how is relationality practiced at life'

End-to-End Bayesian Segmentation and Similarity Assessment of Performed Music Tempo and Dynamics without Score Information

open access: yesMusic & Science
Segmenting continuous sensory input into coherent segments and subsegments is an important part of perception. Music is no exception. By shaping the acoustic properties of music during performance, musicians can strongly influence the perceived ...

With or without you: Family and Career‐Work in a Demanding and Precarious Profession

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract Family arrangements are crucial to people's abilities to meet the high demands of professional careers; but most scholarship has examined stable, highly remunerated professions. To understand the relationship between career and family within the increasing number of precarious professions, we analyse interviews with 102 journalists.
