Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

On expenditure functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
In this paper we present complete characterizations of the expenditure function for both utility representations and preference structures. Building upon these results, we also establish under minimal assumptions duality theorems for exıpenditure ...

Microscopic Description of 2D Topological Phases, Duality, and 3D State Sums

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2010
Doubled topological phases introduced by Kitaev, Levin, and Wen supported on two-dimensional lattices are Hamiltonian versions of three-dimensional topological quantum field theories described by the Turaev-Viro state sum models.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Ordered Sets and Duality for Distributive Lattices

open access: yes, 1984
An account is given of the categorical duality which exists between bounded distributive lattices and compact totally order disconnected spaces. During the past decade, a wide range of structural problems concerning distributive lattices have been solved

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Priestley duality for MV-algebras and beyond

open access: yes, 2021
We provide a new perspective on extended Priestley duality for a large class of distributive lattices equipped with binary double quasioperators. Under this approach, non-lattice binary operations are each presented as a pair of partial binary operations

Why are all dualities conformal? Theory and practical consequences

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2015
We relate duality mappings to the “Babbage equation” F(F(z))=z, with F a map linking weak- to strong-coupling theories and demonstrate that, under fairly general conditions, F may only be a specific conformal transformation of the fractional linear type.

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

On the continuity of the commutative limit of the 4d N=4 non-commutative super Yang–Mills theory

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2015
We study the commutative limit of the non-commutative maximally supersymmetric Yang–Mills theory in four dimensions (N=4 SYM), where non-commutativity is introduced in the two spacelike directions.
