A thermodynamical model for rainfall-triggered volcanic dome collapse [PDF]
Dome-forming volcanic eruptions typically involve the slow extrusion of viscous lava onto a steep-sided volcano punctuated by collapse and the generation of hazardous pyroclastic flows.

Spatiotemporal Modeling of Lava Dome Evolution of Mt. Mayon during its 2023 Eruption using Remote Sensing Data [PDF]
Numerous lava dome construction and destruction processes were observed during the 2023 Mayon Volcano activity from 08 June until 08 December. Studying the lava dome development cycle of active volcanoes similar to Mayon Volcano is crucial because ...

Construction of probabilistic event trees for eruption forecasting at Sinabung volcano, Indonesia 2013-14 [PDF]
Eruptions of Sinabung volcano, Indonesia have been ongoing since 2013. Since that time, the character of eruptions has changed, from phreatic to phreatomagmatic to magmatic explosive eruptions, and from production of a lava dome that collapsed to a ...

Formation processes of the 1909 Tarumai and the 1944 Usu lava domesin Hokkaido, Japan
The formation of the two particular lava domes in Hokkaido, Japan is described and interpreted mainly from geophysical viewpoints. The 1909 eruption of Tarumai volcano was not violent but produced a lava dome over four days.

Thermal structure of a gas-permeable lava dome and timescale separation in its response to perturbation [PDF]
The thermal boundary layer at the surface of a volcanic lava dome is investigated through a continuum model of the thermodynamic advection diffusion processes resulting from magmatic gas flow through the dome matrix.

Volcanic Hot-Spot Detection Using SENTINEL-2: A Comparison with MODIS−MIROVA Thermal Data Series [PDF]
In the satellite thermal remote sensing, the new generation of sensors with high-spatial resolution SWIR data open the door to an improved constraining of thermal phenomena related to volcanic processes, with strong implications for monitoring ...

Periodic behavior in lava dome eruptions [PDF]
Lava dome eruptions commonly display fairly regular alternations between periods of high activity and periods of low or no activity. The time scale for these alternations is typically months to several years. Here we develop a generic model of magma discharge through a conduit from an open-system magma chamber with continuous replenishment.

Lava Dome Growth and Evolution with an Independently Deformable Talus [PDF]
Subduction zone volcanism occurs due to partial melting from subducting slabs, which generally results in high-viscosity magma containing a large amount of volatiles.
