Thermal impacts of basaltic lava flows to buried infrastructure: workflow to determine the hazard

open access: yesJournal of Applied Volcanology, 2020
Lava flows can cause substantial physical damage to elements of the built environment. Often, lava flow impacts are assumed to be binary, i.e. cause complete damage if the lava flow and asset are in contact, or no damage if there is no direct contact ...

Volcanological aspects of the northwest region of Paraná continental flood basalts (Brazil) [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth, 2015
There has been little research on volcanological aspects of Paraná continental flood basalts (PCFBs), and all investigations have mainly been concentrated on the internal portions of the lava flows.

Primary ecological succession of marine communities on the Tajogaite lava flows (La Palma, Canary Islands), fishes colonize faster than macroinvertebrates and algae

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
We studied the primary succession of benthic communities in the lava flows of the Tajogaite volcano at 2, 4.5, and 7 months after the eruption ended. The lava from the Tajogaite created several lava flows and sterile rocky reefs that were monitored in ...

A reconnaissance magnetostratigraphy of Georgian Plio-Quaternary volcanic provinces (southern Caucasus) [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2001
A palaeomagnetic and rock magnetic study was carried out on samples of the Djavakheti, Khrami and Kazbeki regions in Georgia. Samples were taken from 44 localities from 247 subaerial lava flows and from 3 lacustrine sedimentary layers, interbedded ...

An assemblage of lava flow features on Mercury [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, 2013
AbstractIn contrast to other terrestrial planets, Mercury does not possess a great variety of volcanic features, its history of volcanism instead largely manifest by expansive smooth plains. However, a set of landforms at high northern latitudes on Mercury resembles surface flow features documented on Earth, the Moon, Mars, and Venus. The most striking

A Compact Hollow Fiber Electrode Assembly Architecture for Continuous Electrochemical Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A coaxial, membrane‐integrated hollow fiber electrode assembly (HFEA) is developed for continuous marine carbon mineralization. By utilizing a sub‐millimeter inter‐electrode gap, the HFEA minimizes Ohmic losses, achieving 50% energy reduction and over 85% DIC removal.

Palaeomagnetic study on Vesuvius lava flows [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2005
SUMMARY A palaeomagnetic study on Vesuvius lava flows, emplaced after the 79 AD event, has been carried out in order to correlate and/or discriminate deposits and to verify their age of emplacement using the new SISVC (Southern Italy secular variation curve). Results from 18 sites located on the W, S and E slopes of the volcano, are presented.

The extension of the taxon cycle model to island plants: insights from the Canarian vascular flora

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Taxon cycle models describe eco‐evolutionary patterns of lineage colonization, diversification, and decline across archipelagos, inferring an important role for competition amongst ecologically similar taxa in driving concurrent niche changes.
