Compositional boundary layers trigger liquid unmixing in a basaltic crystal mush
This study seeks to tackle the question of why intermediate magmatic rock compositions are poorly represented on the Earth’s surface. The authors do so by tracking the evolution of the physical behaviour of immiscible Fe-rich liquids within a sample ...

Toward Another Lava Lake in the Virunga Volcanic Field? [PDF]
In April and since June, a red glow has been visible on top of Nyamulagira, the most western volcano of the Virunga Volcanic Province, in the western branch of the East African Rift. Helicopter flights and field observations quickly confirmed the presence of lava fountains that might evolve into what could become a new lava lake inside a 400‐ by 600 ...

Trait‐based approaches to restoration ecology: Synthesizing insights from diverse systems
Abstract Under accelerating global change, trait‐based approaches are emerging as essential tools in the ecological restoration toolbox. Where restoration has traditionally focused on the recovery of focal species in isolated systems, trait‐based methods can provide a common language that extends beyond species‐ or system‐specific contexts, allowing ...

Indikasi munculnya Kubah Lava berdasarkan Rekaman Seismik
http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol4no2.20092In the last two decades, there are six volcanoes erupting and are ended up with the growth of lava dome at the crater. Among them, formerly there are three volcanoes that have crater lakes.

Early Jurassic volcanism was in the southern north Victoria Land portion of the Ferrar Large Igneous Province preceded by multiple phases of shallow‐level intrusions of Ferrar sills into the 300 m thick cover of sedimentary rocks of the Triassic‐Jurassic Victoria Group.

Modeling lava lake heat loss, rheology, and convection [PDF]
Measurements at Erta Ale's lava lake and theoretical equations for lake rheology, density driven convection and thermally‐driven plume ascent allow the constraint of lake dynamics. Cooling and crystallization expected from surface heat losses imply a viscosity increase from 150 Pa s to 300–1800 Pa s for cooled surface layers.
