Fractional Action Cosmology: Emergent, Logamediate, Intermediate, Power law Scenarios of the Universe and Generalized Second Law of Thermodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesInt. J. Theor. Phys. (2012) 51:812-837, 2011
In the framework of Fractional Action Cosmology (FAC), we study the generalized second law of thermodynamics for the Friedmann Universe enclosed by a boundary. We use the four well-known cosmic horizons as boundaries namely, apparent horizon, future event horizon, Hubble horizon and particle horizon.

Substantive and Reflexive Elements in Modern Law

open access: yesLuhmann and Law, 2021
The most comprehensive efforts to develop a new evolutionary approach to law are found in the work of Nonet and Selznick in the United States and Habermas and Luhmann in Germany.

The Law of Attrition

open access: yesJournal of Medical Internet Research, 2005
In an ongoing effort of this Journal to develop and further the theories, models, and best practices around eHealth research, this paper argues for the need for a “science of attrition”, that is, a need to develop models for discontinuation of eHealth ...

A criterion of quasi-infinite divisibility for discrete laws [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We consider arbitrary discrete probability laws on the real line. We obtain a criterion of their belonging to a new class of quasi-infinitely divisible laws, which is a wide natural extension of the class of well known infinitely divisible laws through the L\'evy type representations.

Award of damages to part-subsistence villagers in Papua New Guinea [PDF]

Detailed kinship estimation for detecting bias among breeding families in a reintroduced population of the endangered bagrid catfish Tachysurus ichikawai

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In the process of captive breeding and reintroduction of endangered animal species, it is crucial to minimize familial bias in reproductive success during the reintroduction phase to preserve genetic diversity. In this study, we attempted to identify the familial lineage of individuals of the endangered bagrid fish Tachysurus ichikawai born at the ...

The Changing Perception of Communication Needs—A Litmus Test for the Warnock Legacy

open access: yesFrontiers in Education, 2019
Meeting Lady Warnock1 at the final conference for some work commissioned by the DfEE/NHS in 2001, she said that one of her greatest concerns about her earlier report is the fetishisation of the statement of education needs.

Characterization of fungal carbonyl sulfide hydrolase belonging to clade D β‐carbonic anhydrase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Here, we performed a functional analysis of the fungal enzymes belonging to clade D of the β‐class carbonic anhydrase family (β‐D‐CA). The β‐D‐CAs in the basidiomycete Gloeophyllum trabeum and the ascomycete Trichoderma harzianum showed very low activity in the hydration of CO2 but exhibited high activity in the hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide (COS ...
