Scaling Laws for Economic Productivity: Experimental Evidence in LLM-Assisted Translation [PDF]
This paper derives "scaling laws"--empirical relationships between the training compute of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their performance--for economic outcomes. In a preregistered online experiment, 300 professional translators completed 1,800 tasks using one of 13 LLMs (or a control).

In this study, a novel 1D lead‐free metal halide, K2CuBr3, composed of earth‐abundant elements, is introduced for resistive switching and artificial synapse devices. With exceptionally low production costs and minimal environmental impact, K2CuBr3 can be a promising candidate for sustainable memory storage and neuromorphic computing.

Risk and returns of different foreign ownership portfolios: Evidence from Vietnam stock market
This study aims at assessing the risk–return profile of stock portfolios by different levels of the foreign ownership ratio. The paper also evaluates the performance of portfolios by their size and the book-to-market ratio (BTM).

The interplay between the mechanical and electrical network of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes suspended in glycerol is studied. The study distinguishes three regimes depending on the mechanoelectrical properties of these electrofluids. Electrofluids transition between regimes upon mechanical deformation, leading to electrically conductive suspensions ...

Islamic Law, Western European Law and the Roots of Middle East's Long Divergence: a Comparative Empirical Investigation (800-1600) [PDF]
We examine the contribution of Islamic legal institutions to the comparative economic decline of the Middle East behind Latin Europe, which can be observed since the late Middle Ages. To this end, we explore whether the sacralization of Islamic law and its focus on the Sharia as supreme, sacred and unchangeable legal text, which reached its culmination

Statistical thermodynamics of economic systems [PDF]
We formulate thermodynamics of economic systems in terms of an arbitrary probability distribution for a conserved economic quantity. As in statistical physics, thermodynamic macroeconomic variables emerge as the mean value of microeconomic variables and their determination is reduced to the computation of the partition function, starting from an ...

Direct recyling of Li‐ion battery materials promises a low‐cost path towards a secure domestic supply of critical materials for batteries. Using cathode material from an end‐of‐life commercial Li‐ion cell, this work identifies the primary degradation mechanisms that diminish the performance of directly reused cathode materials and includes a discussion
