The old adage that "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" has been confirmed countless times in the practice of law. With some rare exceptions, e.g., Fulop & Hardee, the major firms prosper during good and bad economic times. These firms grow in a number of different ways: mergers; law school recruiting; branch offices; and lateral hiring.
