Gibbs energy minimization thermodynamics for CO2 capture by aqueous amines: Conservation laws, concentration variables, and parameter consistency

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
We clarify how Gibbs‐energy‐minimization models for aqueous‐amine CO2 capture fail when conservation constraints and concentration conventions are inconsistent. Exact standard‐state conversions and Reaktoro case studies show that P(CO2)‐loading fits can mask non‐unique parameters and wrong speciation, motivating complete water‐inclusive formulations ...

Harnessing machine learning and optimization for informed chemical engineering decisions: A styrene reactor analysis

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This study shows that integrating multiple machine learning models with optimization and decision‐making improves chemical process design, and that a consensus‐based strategy across models provides more robust and reliable operating recommendations than any single model, especially under limited or noisy data conditions.

A law of the iterated logarithm for stochastic integrals [PDF]

open access: yes
By using the Itô calculus, a law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) is established for stochastic integrals with respect to locally square integrable martingales.

Copula‐based joint modelling of emergency department visits with time‐varying dependence

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Jointly modelling multiple correlated count time series is essential in health services research, where outcomes like emergency visits for mental health and substance use often evolve together. Ignoring these dependencies can obscure meaningful trends and limit the effectiveness of policy evaluation.

Stochastic Gradient Descent in High Dimensions for Multi‐Spiked Tensor PCA

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the high‐dimensional dynamics of online stochastic gradient descent (SGD) for the multi‐spiked tensor model. This multi‐index model arises from the tensor principal component analysis (PCA) problem with multiple spikes, where the goal is to estimate the unknown signal vectors within the N$N$‐dimensional unit sphere through maximum ...

The functional law of the iterated logarithm for von Mises functionals and multiple Wiener integrals [PDF]

open access: yes
We prove a functional law of the iterated logarithm (FLIL) for m-variate von-Mies-functionals and U-statistics, thereby extending the bounded LIL, recently established by Dehling, Denker and Philipp.
