Use of flow cytometry and PCR analysis to detect 5-carboxyfluoroscein-stained obligate intracellular bacteria Lawsonia intracellularis invasion of McCoy cells

Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2016
In this study, we describe a method to quantify invasion of obligate intracellular bacteria, Lawsonia intracellularis, inside McCoy cells. In immunological research, the cell-permeable fluorescent dye 5'-carboxyfluoroscein succidyl ester (CFSE) is commonly used to quantify eukaryotic cellular proliferation.

Adaptation and validation of a bacteria‐specific enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay for determination of farm‐specific Lawsonia intracellularis seroprevalence in central Kentucky Thoroughbreds

Equine Veterinary Journal, 2011
Summary Reasons for performing study: Lawsonia intracellularis is the causative agent of equine proliferative enteropathy (EPE), a disease for which no large‐scale seroprevalence studies have been conducted ...

Interactions between dietary fibre, endo-parasites and Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria in grower–finisher pigs

Veterinary Parasitology, 1999
Samples of faeces and feed were collected from grower and finisher pigs kept on 25 commercial breeder-finisher units in the West-Midlands region of England. Faecal samples were examined for parasite eggs (Ascaris suis, Trichuris suum and strongylid species) using faecal flotation; and for Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria using the polymerase chain ...
