Abstract The preauricular sulcus has long been debated as a pelvic feature variably attributed to obstetric stress, ligamentous traction, and broader biomechanical processes. To clarify its determinants, we analyzed 409 adult individuals from three archeological and one early modern skeletal collection from the Iberian Peninsula, integrating graded ...

Human evolution and the obstetrical dilemma: The pelvic floor hypothesis
Abstract Human childbirth is mechanically difficult because a large‐headed, broad‐shouldered fetus must pass through a comparatively narrow, twisted bony birth canal. Traditional explanations of this “obstetrical dilemma” emphasize the role of bipedal locomotion in inhibiting the evolution of a wider, more spacious pelvis.

Abstract Past research suggests that people exhibit robust waste aversion. However, many consumers routinely feel that they waste not only goods but also time, money, energy, and emotion and would be hard‐pressed to imagine their lives otherwise. Why does consumer waste persist? In this paper, we first propose a definition for consumer waste.

An examination of joint laxity in haemophilia
An adolescent haemophiliac group (all less than 1 per cent Factor VIII) and a normal, similarly aged, 'control group' of boys were examined to measure joint laxity in an effort to identify a causative factor for bleeding. Definitive laxity was found in the thumb joints and in finger extension of haemophiliacs compared with normal boys.
