Effect of frequency on fretting wear behavior of Ti/TiN multilayer film on depleted uranium. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The Ti/TiN multi-layer film was prepared on the depleted uranium (DU) substrate by cathodic arc ion plating equipment. The character of multi-layer film was studied by SEM, XRD and AES, revealed that the surface was composed of small compact particle and

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Layer-by-layer self-assembly of supramolecular and biomolecular films

open access: yesReviews in Molecular Biotechnology, 2002
In this paper, we give a short account on recent studies of layer-by-layer self-assembly of supramolecular and biomolecular films. Such films are built up from layers of macro-ions with opposing charge. A simple film can be obtained by alternating the adsorption of two components: a flexible, synthetic polycation chains and a supramolecular or ...

Layer-by-Layer Hydrogen-Bonded Antioxidant Films of Linear Synthetic Polyphenols

open access: yes, 2020
We report on the role of the chemical structure of polyphenol pendant groups in linear antioxidant polymers in their assembly and chain intermixing within layer-by-layer (LbL) films, as well as in the antioxidant performance of interfacial assemblies ...
