Automatic Metro Map Layout Using Multicriteria Optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper describes an automatic mechanism for drawing metro maps. We apply multicriteria optimization to find effective placement of stations with a good line layout and to label the map unambiguously. A number of metrics are defined, which are used in

XTRUDE: A Process‐Informed Framework for High‐Fidelity Analysis of Hydrogel Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Extrusion performance emerges from the interplay between material properties and processing conditions. XTRUDE (eXTrusion Rheology for Understanding and Defining Extrudability) recreates the extrusion environment with in situ pressure and temperature sensing, enabling characteristic pressure signatures to quantify extrusion‐specific phenomena and ...

The Single Row Facility Layout Problem: State of the Art [PDF]

open access: yes
The single row facility layout problem (SRFLP) is a NP-hard problem concerned with the arrangement of facilities of given lenghs on a line so as to minimize the weighted sum of the distances between all the pairs of facilities.

3D‐Printed Gradient Shape‐Memory Strain Sensors With Rewritable Gauge Factors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed shape‐memory strain sensor combines thermomechanical programming with gradient architectural design. Preset strain rewrites the gauge factor (GF), while the gradient geometry amplifies the response through strain redistribution. Reprogrammable sensitivity enables the same sensor to detect weak pulse signals and monitor large‐amplitude ...

Module layout optimization using a genetic algorithm in light water modular nuclear reactor power plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Small Modular Reactor (SMR) concept is designed such that it will solve some of the construction problems of large reactors. SMRs are designed to be “shop fabricated and then transported as modules to the sites for installation” (IAEA, 2018).

A Hybrid Bioprinting–Microfabrication Approach to Controllable Multitype Spheroid Arrays for Modeling Tumor Heterogeneity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a “cancer‐in‐a‐well” technology that recreates tumor heterogeneity in vitro using multitype spheroid arrays. Combining bioprinting/microdispensing with microstructured culture devices, the system improves drug screening and modeling of tumor complexity.

Stretchable Microelectrode Arrays for Electro‐Mechanical Probing of Brain Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A multimodal device featuring kirigami‐patterned stretchable microelectrode arrays enables concurrent mechanical actuation and electrophysiological recording of brain spheroids. The platform supports multiple loading regimes and reveals mechanically induced modulation of spontaneous network activity in 3D neural tissue models.
