Host Co‐Occurrence and Population Size Explain Genetic Differentiation and Diversity in Seal Lice
ABSTRACT We studied the drivers of population‐genetic structuring and genetic diversity in specialist parasites based on whole‐genome resequencing data from 82 Echinophthirius horridus seal louse individuals sampled from 12 ecologically and behaviourally different phocine seal species, subspecies and populations across the Holarctic.

Acoustic insights into the zooplankton dynamics of the eastern Weddell Sea [PDF]
The success of any efforts to determine the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems depends on understanding in the first instance the natural variations, which contemporarily occur on the interannual and shorter time scales.

Explicit constructions of short virtual resolutions of truncations
Abstract We propose a concept of truncation for arbitrary smooth projective toric varieties and construct explicit cellular resolutions for nef truncations of their total coordinate rings. We show that these resolutions agree with the short resolutions of Hanlon, Hicks, and Lazarev, which were motivated by symplectic geometry, and we use our definition

ABSTRACT Acinetobacter radioresistens, a ubiquitous non‐pathogen microorganism, is the source of the class D carbapenemase OXA‐23 being therefore a potential disseminator of resistance genes in Acinetobacter spp. At present few cases of human infections have been reported in the literature, all sensible to beta‐lactams.

ABSTRACT Understanding diet composition is essential for unravelling trophic interactions in aquatic ecosystems. DNA metabarcoding, utilising various variable regions of the 18S rRNA gene, is increasingly employed to investigate zooplankton diet composition.

20th anniversary of the history of genetic research on cave lions: A short review
The Panthera genus originated in Africa and subsequently spread to Eurasia, North America and South America. Species within this genus occupy dominant positions in ecological and food chains, but due to climatic fluctuations, changing ecosystems and ...

Language barriers in conservation science citation networks
Abstract Using relevant scientific evidence is crucial to effectively conserve species and ecosystems worldwide. Currently, evidence that is available only in non‐English languages is severely underutilized. We examined many underutilized non‐English languages in the conservation evidence literature and factors that facilitate the use of non‐English ...

The political economy of a Soviet military R&D failure : steam power for aviation, 1932 to 1939 [PDF]
By studying a Soviet R&D failure, the prewar attempt to create a new aeroengine technology based on the steam turbine, we find out more about the motivations, strategies, and payoffs of principals and agents in the Soviet command economy.
