Development of an Advanced LCC-HVDC Model for Transmission System

11th IET International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission, 2015
This paper describes an advanced LCC-HVDC model developed in PowerFactory for National Grid under the background of Western HVDC link in UK. Unlike most of the HVDC models in different simulation packages, this model explicitly incorporates the Automatic Filter Switching control and On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) control.

Verification on Valve Losses of LCC HVDC Converter Station in Korea

2020 3rd International Conference on Power and Energy Applications (ICPEA), 2020
This paper deals with verification of valve losses on High Voltage Direct Current(HVDC) converter stations in Korea. Technique of calculating losses is one of important verification process to evaluate systems performance, so customers have right to get accurate information of losses in project bidding process.

Elimination of Commutation Failures of LCC HVDC System with Controllable Capacitors

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2016
This paper presents a novel hybrid converter configuration for conventional Line-Commutated Converter (LCC) HVDC technology aiming to eliminate commutation failures under serious faults. Dynamic series insertion of capacitors during commutation is utilized to increase the effective commutation voltage. The operating principles are presented followed by

LCC HVDC bipoles configurations and their comparison with same and separate line

2015 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON), 2015
Over the last 20 years, LCC HVDC has become the dominating technology for long-distance transmission of bulk power [1]. With two bipoles power can transfer through same HVDC line or by separate line. Both bipoles can run with lots of different configuration as per availability of converter and line and requirement of power.

Modeling of LCC-HVDC Stations Based on Concept of Motion Equation

2019 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia), 2019
Line Commutated Converter based High Voltage Direct Current (LCC-HVDC) Transmissions are widely applied in transmitting large-capacity electricity in China. The stability of power system may be threatened due to dynamic interactions between multiple large-capacity converter stations in AC and DC power grids. Several studies have reported some stability

Tapping existing LCC-HVdc systems with Voltage Source Converters

2016 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2016
This paper presents the application of a Full-bridge modular multi-level converter (FB-MMC) to tap an existing LCC-HVdc system. During faults, the dc voltage of the FB-MMC is controlled to reduce the fault current instead of blocking the converters. Electromagnetic Transient Simulations performed with PSCAD has been used to demonstrate the performance ...
