Molecular Description of the LCST Behavior of an Elastin-Like Polypeptide

Biomacromolecules, 2014
Elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) with the repeat sequence of VPGVG are widely used as a model system for investigation of lower critical solution temperature (LCST) transition behavior. In this paper, the effect of temperature on the structure, dynamics and association of (VPGVG)18 in aqueous solution is investigated using atomistic molecular dynamics ...

A Self-Oscillating Polymer Chain with High LCST

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
A novel self-oscillating polymer displaying a high lower critical solution temperature (LCST) was developed. The novel polymer chain underwent soluble-insoluble self-oscillation induced by a Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. The driving force of the self-oscillation was the differing solubility of the polymer chain in the reduced and oxidized states.

Extraordinarily Large LCST Depression Converts Nonthermosensitive Polymer to Thermosensitive

Macromolecules, 2018
A facile method to tune the phase transition temperature of thermosensitive polymers is to introduce an additive; however, the influence of additives is usually limited. Here the influence of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), a polymeric additive, on thermal behavior of copolymers of acrylamide (AAm), N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA), and 3-(acrylamido ...

Nanoscopic hydrophilic/hydrophilic phase-separation well below the LCST of polyphosphoesters

Chemical Communications, 2019
The complex phase separation process of thermoresponsive polyphosphoesters (PPEs) with an identical side-group structure but different copolymer compositions is characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy.

LCST and UCST behavior in polymer solutions and blends

Polymer, 2012
Abstract We introduce a model for polymer solutions and blends that display both an upper and a lower critical solution temperature (UCST, LCST). Using our simple analytic lattice theory along with a fixed parameter set independent of both composition and temperature, we study solutions and blends exhibiting complicated miscibility patterns ...

Tailoring the LCST of Thermosensitive Hydrogel Thin Films Deposited by iCVD

Langmuir, 2014
Using the iCVD (initiated chemical vapor deposition) polymerization technique, we generated a library of thermosensitive thin film hydrogels in the physiological temperature range. The library shows how a specific hydrogel with a desired temperature response can be synthesized via the copolymerization of three main components: (a) the main ...

Synthesis of Thermo‐Responsive Polymers With Both Tunable UCST and LCST

Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2011
AbstractNew water‐soluble block copolymers of 2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate (MEO2MA), oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (OEGMA), and N‐(3‐(dimethylamino) propyl) methacrylamide (DMAPMA) (poly(OEGMA‐co‐MEO2MA)‐b‐poly(DMAPMA)) were prepared via sequential reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization.

Structural Colored Balloon Composed of Temperature-Responsive Polymers Showing LCST Behavior

Langmuir, 2018
Structural colored balloons (SCBs) consisting of polymer thin film developed structural color by thin-layer interference on the shell. Thermoresponsive SCBs were prepared with poly(diethylene glycol monomethyl ether methacrylate)- co-poly( N-phenylacrylamide), which shows lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior. When cooling gelatin aqueous

Activation Energy of Autonomous Polymer Chains with High LCST

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
A self-oscillating polymer chain consisting ofN-ethylacrylamide (NEAAm) and a Ru catalyst of the BelousovZhabotinsky (BZ) reaction was prepared. The polymer chain underwent soluble-insoluble self-oscillation induced by the BZ reaction, originating from the differing solubility of the Ru moiety in the reduced and oxidized states.
