Soil Salinity and Sodicity in Drylands: A Review of Causes, Effects, Monitoring, and Restoration Measures

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2021
Soil salinization and sodification are common processes that particularly characterize drylands. These processes can be attributed either to natural conditions or anthropogenic activities.

Effects of Climate Change on Hydrological Indicators of Subsurface Drainage for a Representative French Drainage Site

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
The aim of this study is to evaluate from a hydrological perspective and in the context of climate change the future of subsurface drainage of the La Jaillière site (western France), which is representative of the pedology of the majority of French ...

Estimating subsoil resistance to nitrate leaching from easily measurable pedological properties [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2012
Leaching of nitrate (NO3-) can increase the groundwater concentration of this anion and reduce the agronomical effectiveness of nitrogen fertilizers. The main soil property inversely related to NO3- leaching is the anion exchange capacity (AEC), whose determination is however too time-consuming for being carried out in soil testing laboratories.

LEACHED SOILS IN SLOVENIA: PEDOLOGICAL PROPERTIES, SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND CLASSIFICATION

open access: yesActa agriculturae Slovenica, 2018
Eluvial-illuvial processes plays key role in pedogenesis, especially in the development of leached soils. As reported in Slovenian soil map 1 : 25.000 leached soils cover 2,3 % of Slovenian territory. They occur on different parent materials, mostly on flat relief preserved from erosion and colluvial processes. The aim of our study is the evaluation of

State‐Space Models Describe the Spatial Variability of Bromide Leaching Controlled by Land Use, Irrigation, and Pedologic Characteristics

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2013
Understanding leaching mechanisms of surface‐applied solutes and pesticides is of paramount interest. One problem inherent in leaching experiments at the field scale is the considerably large spatial variability of flow‐controlling soil properties.
