Seismical Protection Properties of High Damping Rubber Bearing and Lead Rubber Bearing Base Isolation Systems for Multi-Storey RC Buildings

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
In the present paper two different base isolation systems, designed and verified according to the european seismic code (EC2 and EC8), are compared for evaluating the behaviour of a base isolated building, highly irregular in plan, in presence of a seismic excitation.

Nondestructive inspection of a lead rubber bearing using ultrasonic wave

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
At first, two kinds of miniature LRB models are prepared, one model has normal lead damper, the other has abnormal one. And they are scanned by ultrasonic wave using ultrasonic transducers and AE sensors. The output signals obtained through the inside are different from each other. Infinite route is assumed as ultrasonic wave propagation line.

Seismic Retrofit of a Historic Pier Using Lead-Rubber Bearings

Ports 2013, 2013
The San Diego Unified Port District decided to construct a new multi-use building on the historic Broadway Pier. The pier, built in 1913, would require a seismic upgrade to accommodate the new facility. Initial study findings indicated that seismic demand would cause failure of the existing batter pile to deck connections. Preliminary retrofit concepts

The Study of the Design Parameter of Lead Rubber Bearing

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
The Lead-Rubber-Bearing is a type of isolation device in entirety. Its design parameter is complicated. when it is used in bridges, it always need plenty of time to design. It is not beneficial to its application and dissemination. The design formula now available are lack of relevance, can not provide a clear and distinct computation measure.

Optimization of Large-Tonnage Lead Rubber Bearing for Highway Bridge

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
A 10000kN lead rubber bearing is taken as an example to study the energy dissipation mode of isolated bridge and optimal lead rate of the bearing. Bilinear spring model considering the effect of real lead rate on the stiffness is used to simulate the bearing.

Lead‐rubber hysteretic bearings suitable for protecting structures during earthquakes

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1982
AbstractLead‐rubber hysteretic bearings provide in a single unit the combined features of vertical load support, horizontal flexibility and energy absorbing capacity required for the base isolation of structures from earthquake attack. The lead‐rubber hysteretic bearing is a laminated elastomeric bearing of the type used in bridge structures, with a ...

Cost-effectiveness of bridge seismic retrofit using lead-rubber bearings

2015
ABSTRACT: Highway bridges, including those constructed under modern seismic design codes, were severe damaged during the Chi-Chi earthquake in Taiwan. According to the Taiwanese Highway Bureau’s preliminary report, at least nine bridges were severely damaged, including three bridges that were under construction.
