Increases in vein length compensate for leaf area lost to lobing in grapevine

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 2022
Abstract Premise Leaf lobing and leaf size vary considerably across and within species, including among grapevines ( Vitis spp.), some of the best‐studied leaves.

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Comparing the paths of Hedgehog release in artificial and natural settings

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hh morphogens require solubilization factors to overcome their tight association with the plasma membrane and signal to distant cells, but the precise functions of these factors are controversial. Here, we use published in vivo observations as the most relevant evidence to test their suggested functions and discuss contradictions and gaps between in ...

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

The length of the dry season may be associated with leaf scleromorphism in cerrado plants [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2015
Despite limitations of low fertility and high acidity of the soils, the cerrado flora is the richest amongst savannas. Many cerrado woody species show sclerophyllous leaves, which might be related to the availability of water and nutrients in the soil.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.
